You may not have heard it, but last week was chock full of:

Good News:

Outstanding news last week. The earth is not melting. Whew. All 4 major global temperature tracking outlets released updated data showing that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously. We may even be headed into a new ice age. Guess the news hasn't reached Alaska yet, as a tiny village is suing two dozen oil, power and coal companies, saying that the greenhouse gases they produce threaten their very existence. Think they'll be happy to hear the news?

Good news: The media is finally connecting the dots and realizing the push for alternative energy is taking a toll on the American economy. As in, rising food costs, among others. The media may be a little late however, as a new survey is showing 70% of Americans believe they're out of touch. Also on the media, the Oscars bombed, big time. That's a big ouch for the beautiful people.

More good news on the culture front: Parents in one Virginia county have been successful in removing from their elementary school a book which actively promotes the gay lifestyle. Baby steps.

Speaking of baby steps, it appears China may be realizing the folly of fooling with Mother Nature. They're considering scrapping their one-child policy.

A baby has been dubbed the 'Miracle Child'. The parents had been advised to abort because of a rare brain disorder. They chose to ignore this expert advise and gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby. Ain't life grand?

Standing up to the PC crowd, the Vatican has cracked down on feminist interpretation of the liturgy, ruling that God must always be recognized as Our Father.

Bringing out the shadenfreude in me, it seems Berkeley, CA., is getting blowback from their anti-military stance. Businesses are suffering as true patriots take their business elsewhere. This may be the first time Berkeley has realized that actions have consequences. I'm smiling.

More consequences, as one of the most liberal colleges ever, Antioch College, is out of cash and being forced to close for the 2008 - 2009 academic year. You think they'll go back to teaching economics if they ever reopen? Me neither.

 Iraq and Islam:

History was made as the inaugural class of more than 1,100 Iraqi Police recruits graduated the Furat Iraq Police Training Center in Baghdad. Iraq is stepping up and stepping out. Congratulations to the Iraqi people and the good ole USA that made this possible.

The Dutch are standing up to Muslim bullying as politician Geert Wilders is set to release a 15-minute film that compares Islam to Nazism. Saudi Arabia immediately called for a boycott on Danish goods, and various other Islamic factions had temper tantrums, but it appears the show will go on.

The Taliban are mad about Harry. They had a big ol' hissy fit when they found out Prince Harry had been right under their noses, fighting on the front lines.  They have vowed revenge. Yawn.

An undercover survey has found that 3 of 4 Islamic centers in the US are hotbeds of anti-Western extremism. I expect the libs will have a hissy fit about violating their privacy. Oops, I stand corrected. The libs are too busy trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq.

Speaking of surveys, researchers have concluded that Palestinian suicide bombers are not 'psychologically unstable' (nuts, for those of you who were home-schooled). Seems those dudes are motivated by personal vengeance, not religious belief. Whew. Feel safer now?

Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan has endorsed Obama for president, saying he is "the hope of the entire world." I think he may have meant the Muslim world. Meanwhile, raised eyebrows at a page hosted on Obama's presidential campaign Web site that promotes events sponsored by controversial Islamic groups. Obama's reaction? Zip. Well, not quite. He proudly announced to the world that he is quitting smoking. What a guy. The PC crowd swooned (but didn't faint, darn it).

Education:

Not much good news on the education front last week. First, Harvard University continues to pay homage to outdated 'diversity' by deciding to make Muslim women more comfortable in the gym. Harvard is now instituting women-only access six hours a week. Stuff like this makes me glad I never went to college.

In Oakland, CA, Oaksterdam University has a nifty new major. They're now preparing people for jobs in California's medical marijuana industry. As in, teaching students to grow pot. BTW: Have you ever met an industrious pot-head? Me neither.

Also in California, a court has ruled that several home-schooled children must be enrolled in government schools, or else. It seems parental religious beliefs are 'no evidence' of a 1st Amendment violation. Don't you just love the new, living breathing Constitution?

Across the pond in England, sex education will now be compulsory in primary schools.

Instead of leaving you with a smile this week, I'm signing off with some good news and some bad news for all the guys out there: The bad news is, new research is indicating Viagra may affect men's fertility. The good news is, researchers have found the genetic basis for inherited hair loss. Ya win some, ya lose some. Such is life.

Till next Monday,

Nancy M
