Last week represented an unprecedented, historic power grab by the federal government.
The week started with Treasury Secretary Geithner's bid to give government the power
to regulate (seize) any businesses that may fail. This government intrusion
into free markets was treated with a big 'so what?' by the media and politicians
alike.
As was the EPA's proposal to designate CO2 as a
'threat to public health'. Meaning they will have the right
to regulate anyone and anything under the rubric of global warming. What is this
but socialism? My prediction in
The Coming Crisis is playing out on schedule, with 'climate change'
the new crisis, requiring trillions (more) of our dollars.
The coming crisis was helped along by the United Nations, as they called for a
huge reordering
of the world economy, likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfers
- from the U.S. to third world countries, of course.
Right on cue, Father Earth, Algore, will be issuing forth
yet another tome dedicated to informing all us peons how
to cope with global warming. Aaargh...
Overlooked in the climate hype is the
inconvenient and obvious fact that out of the entire atmospheric
makeup, less than 2% is made up of greenhouse gases. Of that 2%, “planet-killing”
carbon dioxide comprises only 3.62% while water vapor encompasses 95%.
Meanwhile, some states are already adopting new regulations under the guise of saving
the planet. California is planning to
ban big screen TVs, and black cars. I kid you not. Stay
tuned.
As the EPA and Treasury take over the private market, the Obama administration is
working behind the scenes to take over everything else.
The Senate voted for
the new 'GIVE Act' which, under the guise of promoting volunteerism,
will actually consider making 'service' mandatory. These service requirements would
be included in all school curriculums. Of course, they specifically rule out any
hint of 'religion', while channeling millions of our tax dollars to left-wing activists.
CBO estimates
S 277 would cost over $6.1 billion dollars over the 2010-2014 period. Again,
very little coverage by either the media or our elected officials.
Congress on Wednesday
set aside more than 2 million acres in nine states as protected
wilderness - from California's Sierra Nevada mountains to the Jefferson National
Forest in Virginia. This was followed by the
Environmental
Protection Agency’s decision to place a strict and indefinite moratorium on new mountaintop mining
projects. Guess we'll have to keep getting our energy elsewhere.
Oh, and by the way, it appears those Guantanamo detainees will be released here
in America. The government plans to
give them a little assistance (in the form of our tax dollars)
so they might adjust to life in the big, bad US of A. Again, I kid you not.
The poster child for a government run business, the Post Office, has, gasp,
run out of money. They have petitioned Congress to cut down
on mail delivery. Here's a thought. How about they turn over their business to Fed-Ex
or UPS? Think of all the new jobs that would create.
CULTURE:
A California high school that briefly canceled the gay-themed musical "Rent" has
been sued by the American Civil Liberties Union for sanctioning a
"sexist and homophobic" atmosphere on campus.
The five fully identified questioners called on randomly by the president in his
townhall meeting last week were anything but a diverse lot. Turns out they were
all Obama campaign backers.
Communities in 28 states will receive $800,000 to address
“environmental justice challenges,” the Environmental Protection
Agency announced last week. Quick, tell me what environmental justice is. Answer:
What the government says it is.
People in Spokane are bringing Cascade or Electrasol in from out of state because
the
eco-friendly varieties required under Washington state law
don't work as well. And those new eco-friendly light bulbs are saving energy -
by not working. Despite this, green still remains the flavor
of the day.
