While our president was otherwise engaged in mediating the equivalent of a parking
ticket, Congress continued apace in its efforts to take over the nation's health
care. Thank God for the August recess!
Yesterday, Treasury Secretary and tax cheat Timothry Geithner started laying the
groundwork for
yet another tax increase. New data released by the IRS has just shown that
the
top 1% income earners pays more in tax than the bottom 95% combined, so
I guess that leaves the middle class. Only the experts and PhD's are surprised.
Meanwhile, Speaker Pelosi upped the war on capitalism by accusing insurance companies
of 'unethical behavior' and
branding their profits 'immoral'. Hey, with the GOP on the
sidelines, designated victims are becoming scarce. Expect August to be full of stories
of the horrors of evil insurance companies.
The federal government is
quietly razing most of its public housing, signaling the
absolute failure of yet another government boondoggle. The 'bulldozer attack on
crime and poverty soon' will make Atlanta - home of the first public housing development
- the first major city to eliminate all of its large housing projects. 93,000 and
counting.
Speaking of government boondoggles: Few things illustrate government waste as effectively
as this disturbing
YouTube video in which a well running Volvo engine was destroyed
as part of the Cash for Clunkers program.
Oh, and in Oregon, Dems are taking credit for
creating 3,236 news jobs. As always, the devil is in the
details. Those 'jobs', alas, last only one week.
States are planning on significantly upping money
to combat obesity. New York is giving free
one-way plane tickets to the homeless and
emergency grants from the NEA may be going to help
fund nude simulated-sex dances, Saturday night "pervert" revues and the airing of
pornographic horror films at art houses in San Francisco. I'm not making this stuff
up.
As you read this, an Alabama county is
preparing to shut down due to lack of money. 3,600 employees
will be on unpaid leave and many county offices will be closed or cutting back hours.
And in Arizona, they're so strapped for cash they're considering
selling the House and Senate Buildings. Its a start....
CULTURE:
Nearly a thousand Palestinians
celebrated marriage on Thursday night in a ceremony organized
by Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip. Most of the brides were babies.
President Obama
will award Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) next month with
the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor. RIP Mary
Jo Kopechne.
In Florida, Clearwater's parks and recreation director ordered the
removal of 13 flagpoles from across the city this week saying
budget cuts have made it impossible to properly care for the flags. I smell a rat.
A whopping 58% of Republicans either think Barack Obama
wasn't born in the US (28%) or aren't sure (30%). A mere
42% think he was. The 'birthers' controversy doesn't show signs of abating.
While nearly 400,000 concerned citizens demand President Obama present his elusive
"long-form" birth certificate, more than a dozen other documents
remain unreleased or otherwise blocked from the public eye.
Trina Thompson gave it the old college try, but couldn't find work. Now she thinks
her sheepskin wasn't worth her time, and is
suing her alma mater for her money back.
Across the pond in the UK, police will be ordered
not to charge Muslim extremists in many hate crime cases – to
stop them becoming more militant. Examples of crimes to which a blind eye may be
turned include incitement to religious hatred or viewing extremist material on the
internet.
OF INTEREST:
A 10 year-old German girl with half her brain missing is
leading a normal life. Her brain has rewired itself to allow
her to see out of one eye as though she has two, even though half of her brain tissue
was entirely missing from birth. This might explain Reid and Pelosi.
In a daring experiment in Europe, scientists used mosquitoes as flying needles to
deliver a "vaccine" of live malaria parasites through their
bites. The results were astounding.
